Yeye Olori 6ft tall Idanre Queen who outlived her husbands, living and leading the Idanre people for almost a century. She is her Royal Highness, Queen Oladaran. She lived for almost 100 years, through which she outlived three consecutive Owas. In the image above she is speaking with Mr Bayo Olowokere a journalist at the time and her pet goat by her feet.
The Queen was known to have been married to three past Owas of Idanre Land. His highness Owa Adeboye Townojoye Arubiefin the first, whom she had a daughter with. After the Owa past away she became the wife of his son Oba Gbolagbeye Arubiefin the second, as culture demanded the son inherit the wife of the father. She had two daughter with him. The Queen then outlived him and was inherited by his son, Owa Oba Adegbule Aaroye Arubiefin the third who died in the 70s, she had a son and daughter with him.
Queen Oladaran was almost 6 ft tall, rather tall for a woman of the time, was said to have the natural mien and aura of a Queen that commanded respect. She was feared and obeyed by the people of Idanre land.
Idanre is in Ondo state, it is located about 250 miles North-east of Lagos in the South Western parts of Nigeria. The place is known to have a natural attraction, which is the massive hills that wall the town. Also called Oke Idanre it include such cultural sites like; Owa’s palace, shrines, old court, belfry, Agboogun footprint, thunder water (Omi Apaara) and burial mounds and grounds.
